Professional Background
Asmau Sahabi Mukhtar serves as Nanotechnology Lead at Milestones Centre for Soil Restoration, bringing a research background in nanoparticle synthesis and characterization into our newest treatment technique. She is currently completing a PhD in Medical Nanotechnology at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, following an MSc in the same field at the same institution, and holds a BSc in Chemistry from Kaduna State University, Nigeria.
Her academic research has focused on engineering nanoparticles for detection and diagnostic applications, including gold, silica, silver and zinc nanoparticles and core-shell particle systems, work published in a peer-reviewed book chapter on paper-based optical chemosensors and presented at international nanotechnology research symposiums in Tehran. That is a medical and analytical nanotechnology background rather than a soil or environmental one, and we are direct about that. What carries over is the technical core of the work: synthesizing and characterizing nanoparticles precisely enough that they behave predictably, which is exactly the discipline needed to bring engineered nanoparticles like nanoscale zero valent iron into a real remediation programme rather than treating it as an untested add-on.
Focus Areas
- Nanoparticle synthesis and characterization applied to engineered treatment design
- Site suitability assessment for our nanotechnology-based chemical treatment technique
- Laboratory analysis supporting nanoparticle performance, including UV-visible spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering
- Translating nanoparticle research methods from a medical and analytical background into environmental application
